Denbigh Castle
Denbigh Castle is an Edwardian fortress with half a mile of town walls built in 1282. Edward I left the area in charge of Henry De Lacy, one of the king's loyal commanders and gave him the task of building a new castle. The castle was then built on top of Dafydd ap Gruffydd's stronghold and all evidence of his presence was removed. The start of the construction was in 1282 but in 1294 Denbigh was attacked by Madog ap Llewelyn and so the construction of the castle was stopped. In 1305 the castle was finally finished and even has a triple-towered gatehouse for extra security.
The castle is now in the possession of CADW, the Welsh Government's historic environment service who prevent further decay to the grounds and walls and open the castle daily to visitors
